I lost someone who was very dear to me yesterday, my Aunt Marguerite Thomason. Yes, she lived to be 94 and died after only a brief illness, so there is much to be grateful for. But what I am really grateful for is all the joy she brought into my life. I spent so many days and nights in her home when I was growing up, playing with my cousins Pat and George, Jr. She used to cut my hair and give me Tonette home permanents. (I think you have to be pretty old to know about home permanents.) I always admired her so much – I think everyone did. I was kind of in awe of her and Uncle George. They had cool decorating accessories, such as a mobile hanging from the ceiling, butterfly chairs, and books with covers that matched the color scheme. They drove Studebakers when the rest of the family drove Chevrolets. They moved into a split-level in East Memphis while we lived in an old 2-story. And they had WHITE carpet in the living room! I can’t count the Christmas Eves spent in their home, with Pat at the piano. I was blessed with really great aunts, and Aunt Marguerite was practically an extension of my own mother in her influence on me as a kid. As an adult I loved her still and I cherish the memories of how excited she would be when I would show up to visit. God speed, Aunt Marguerite. Your time to fly away has come. Mother and Daddy, and Allida and Leo, and many more are there to welcome you to heaven. No doubt it will become a bit more stylish when you get the place fixed up. ?? Nancy Thomason McDow
