Margaret Tinker's Obituary
Margaret Ruth Tinker, age 93, passed away at her home on December 8, 2021. Born on January 7, 1928, Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Yerby; her husband of 67 years, Thurman; one sister, Mary Elizabeth; her daughter, Sandy and a son-in-law, Daryle. Margaret is survived by her daughters Betty Russell (Mike), Ann Vinson, Pat Anthony, Brenda Short (David), Beverly Farrell (Richard), Becky Mahaffy (Kevin), Shelly Ellis and 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Margaret grew up in Ensley, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. As a young adult she worked in a weapons factory during World War II and as an operator for the Bell South telephone company later. After marrying Thurman, they began raising their family of eight daughters and lived briefly in Blytheville, Arkansas, then moved to Kennett, Missouri, and later to Memphis in 1968. In 1975 Margaret began caring for children in her home as a way of continuing her love for children. Margaret enjoyed attending and supporting the ministries at St. James United Methodist Church which later became CrossRoads United Methodist Church.
A visitation for Margaret will be held on Monday, December 13th, at 10:00 A.M. with the service following at 11:00 A.M. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38119.
