Margaret "Peggy" Thweatt Drinkard's Obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Thweatt Drinkard, 66, won her seven-month battle with cancer, chemotherapy, and related evil side effects on September 21, 2016. She was born in Nashville on February 20, 1950 to the late Poyner and Margie Thweatt. She was a 1968 graduate of Harpeth Hall School in Nashville and received a BE degree from Vanderbilt University in 1972 where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Peggy became a Memphian in 1977 following her marriage to D. Dwight Drinkard. This loving union and closest friendship recently celebrated its 39th anniversary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children: Donald D. Drinkard, Jr. (Helen) of Memphis and Kathryn D. Howell (Matt) of Knoxville; and four grandchildren, whom she adored and loved to spoil and who knew her as “Pege”: Dewey and Freddy Drinkard and Zoe Kate and Reid Howell. She also leaves a sister, Kathy Thweatt Morton (David) of Nashville. She was a strong Christian woman and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she led a ladies Bible study group for a number of years. Her community activities included: The Junior League of Memphis (past Secretary and member of the Board), The Dilettantes (past President), Grandview Garden Club (past President), and Memphis Country Club Ladies Golf Association (past Chair). Her passions were family, friends, painting, and time spent at the family cabin on Pickwick Lake. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00pm at Christ United Methodist Church. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors in the church’s main sanctuary starting at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests directing generosity to the charity of the donor’s choice.“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
