Margaret Taylor, a lifelong educator in Memphis, died on Sunday, May 17 at age 97. “Mrs. Taylor” as she was fondly called, attended the University of Memphis where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, President of the Read Obituary
Mrs. Taylor was a customer of mine when I worked at Loehmann’s in Park Place Mall in the early 1980’s and then I reconnected with her 8 years ago when I was a fragrance vendor at Macy’s. She was the type of person you would remember! She was a classy lady, and we need more educators like her in the Shelby County School System! RIP, Mrs. Taylor!
Margaret Taylor taught me 7th and 8th grade math at East Jr. High. While being unfailingly gracious, she had the ability to push us on to our greatest possible achievement in math. I had the amazing gift of sharing a grocery store with her in later years. She was getting her own groceries pretty recently, dressed very professionally, wearing the signature bun, and mid-heels pumps. She, along with Miss Margaret Said, helped me become fully engaged with school. What an amazing blessing she was in my life.

Margaret Taylor was my principal at Grahamwood in 1972. Many years later she was my sons’ principal when they attended school there. I always admired Mrs. Taylor. They don’t make them like that anymore. She commanded respect and she got it. So sorry for the loss of a wonderful educator who loved children and devoted her life to them.
It says “Click here to share a memory of Margaret.” She was not Margaret, she was Mrs. Taylor. I don’t think I ever had a teacher that I admired more than Mrs. Taylor. What a career she had and what an inspiration she was, working into her mid 90’s to help children. Loved running into her on occasion and so glad that I told her how much she had meant to me the last time I did. I still can’t believe there is a Memphis, with no Mrs. Taylor in it. Condolences to her family.

Mrs. Taylor was an amazing lady. I remember going to her office with my daddy & reading the Commercial Appeal to her before I enrolled in Grahamwood for first grade. I’ll always remember how encouraging she was. My thoughts & prayers are with her family.

Margaret Taylor was so special to me. She hired me as a young teacher and shaped me into the great teacher I am today, 33 years later and I still carry her strength with me everyday!!
