Margaret Zanone Nelson's Obituary
MARGARET ZANONE NELSON, 82, a third-generation Memphian, daughter of Katherine McCarney Zanone and David C. Zanone, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at MethodistLeBonheurGermantownHospital. She graduated from St.AgnesAcademy and was president of Chi Sigma Sorority and attended MemphisStateUniversity where she was an officer of Alpha Delta Pi. A resident of Town Village at Audubon Park, she was a communicant of St. Louis Catholic Church and a former member of the Legion of Mary, St. Louis Altar Guild, and Fleur de Lis. She was a long-time member of Madonna Circle and past president of both Circle Arts and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council 4312. She was also a member of the American Contract Bridge League. Her husband of nearly 42 years, E. James Nelson, died in 1994. She leaves two daughters, Laurie Nelson and Nancy Nelson of Memphis; two sons and their wives, Lynn and E.J. “Ned” Nelson of Germantown and Donna and Dave E. Nelson of Collierville; and seven grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mary Nell Crosby and Eugenia Pera. Her brother Dave C. Zanone and sister Kathleen Handwerker predeceased her. Because St. LouisChurch is undergoing renovation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the parish’s ClunanCenter at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19. Visitation will begin there one hour prior to the start of Mass with the rosary being said at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Monsignor Paul W. Clunan Endowment Fund in care of St. Louis Church, Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center, or the Church Health Center.
