Margaret Killough's Obituary
Margaret Killough, 87, of Memphis, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Mrs. Killough was preceded in death by her husband, James Killough, and was the beloved mother of three children: David Killough, of Nashville; Barbara Gordon Leach (Keith), of Cordova; and Belinda Gordon (Tim), of Chicago, Illinois. She leaves loving and happy memories to her three grandchildren: Henry Gordon, Abbigail Gordon, and Harper Gordon. As a young woman, Mrs. Killough earned a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Design and High Fashion Patternmaking at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Her dressmaking and furniture upholstering skills were admirable. She also had a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Memphis State University, and she was the devoted, caring teacher to many fifth graders in the Desoto County, Mississippi, School System for more than twenty years from the mid-1960s until the mid-1980s. She also was an avid and gifted gardener, and in 1965 became one of the founding members of the Wooddale Estates Garden Club, and remained a club member until her death. In addition, Mrs. Killough was an inveterate reader, reading at least five or six books of fiction and non-fiction a week. Her other passions included beachcombing on the Gulf Coast, and being a thoughtful and caring mother, friend and neighbor. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and a graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Southwoods Cemetery. The family asks that any memorials be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Library Association.
