Margaret Jowers' Obituary
MARGARET RIGGIN JOWERS, a life long Memphian, died at home after a short illness on June 5, 2013. Daughter of Cecil and Maude Riggin, Margaret graduated from Memphis State College, where she was editor of The DeSoto yearbook. She was also a charter member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority after serving as President of Xi Beta Nu Sorority. She retired from Memphis Publishing Company after 31 years as first a layout artist and then as the first editor of the employee newspaper, The Inside Reporter. Margaret was a member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church, the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the knitting group. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, William C. Jowers, her brother, Cecil W. Riggin, Jr. and her stepsons, William C. Jowers, Jr. and Gus Eric Jowers. She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Jowers; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Norris Folkerts, and her sister-in-law, Joan Riggin. She also leaves three grandsons and their wives, Jason and Esbelle Jowers of Austin, TX, Nathan and Pam Jowers of Farmington, AR, and Dixon and Liz Jowers of Tomball, TX; two granddaughters, Keri Jowers of Baltimore, MD and Emily Beavers of Ozark, AL, and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Colonial Park United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 8 followed by services in the sanctuary at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
