Margaret Irvin's Obituary
Margaret Irvin, born October 13th, 1943, died peacefully surrounded by her children in the early morning of October 22nd, ending a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was the mother of Victoria Irvin and Benjamin McCollam. She is survived by her children, her sister Dorothy Irvin, her grandchildren, and the many, many underprivileged preschoolers she nurtured and loved over the course of her career as a teacher.
Margaret was possessed of vast empathy, compassion, and determination to do all she could to make the world a better place. She was deeply involved in several wildlife charities, such as Operation Migration and Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory. She thought nothing of taking in wounded or stray animals and caring for them, including but not limited to birds, turtles, raccoons, and on one particularly memorable occasion, an orphaned litter of possums.
She was a talented writer, and mender of broken things. She will be sorely missed.
A small and private gathering of remembrance will be held on November 15th, 2:00pm, at the home of her daughter, Victoria Irvin. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Gulf Specimen Laboratories. https://gulfspecimen.org/get-involved
