Manilla Frisby's Obituary
Manilla McCord Green Frisby, devoted Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on August 15, 2023, at Trezevant Manor Terrace just a few days after she turned 99. She was born in Shelbyville of Bedford County, TN on August 10, 1924, and was the only child of Albert Clifford Green and Gladys Manilla Moon, the paternal granddaughter of Lewis Daniel Green and Sarah Louella White, and the maternal granddaughter of Pleasant Bacon Moon Sr. and Leno White Carpenter.
Manilla had a caring and loving heart, always helping family and friends in any way she could, and she fostered that virtue in her children and subsequent generations. A steadfast and faithful Christian, she was an active and longtime member of Eudora Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.
When she wasn’t busy rearing children and managing family responsibilities, her working career included many years with Miller Publishing Company in Memphis, TN. Even after her working years concluded, Manilla kept busy in various ways including volunteering many hours in the Trezevant Library and playing (and dominating) games with her grandchildren, Canasta and Bridge groups, and Rummy Tile partners–all of whom were familiar with her tenacious and methodical tendencies. It’s no secret where her grandchildren and great grandchildren get their competitive spirits!
Mema, as she was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was predeceased by her parents and her husband of sixty years, Howard G. Frisby Jr. She is survived by her children, H. Grady Frisby III (Elizabeth), Peggy Jo Coleman (Vincent), Clifford Green Frisby (Lauri), and Terri Gail Rossi (Jim), eleven grandchildren Amy Reis (Anthony), Adam Coleman (Suzanne), Avery Bishop (Ken), Claire Bell (David), Anne Brenner (Alex), Drew Frisby (Emily), Todd Miller (Emily), Zach Miller (Kelly), Eve Berkheimer, Katherine Frisby, and Margarett Frisby Brown (Mike), and sixteen great grandchildren Henry Jones, Joelle Miller, Madison Reis, Connor Reis, Ryan Reis, Cooper Bishop, Jax Miller, Lyla Kay Berkheimer, Alafair Miller, Bennett Bell, McCord Lee Miller, Charles Bell, Clark Green Frisby, Madeline E. Brenner, River Miller, and James Howard Frisby, and many friends who were consideredfamily.
Following a graveside service for the family, services will take place Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Trezevant Manor, 177 N. Highland St., Memphis, TN 38111 with a reception in the Music Room.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any remembrances be provided to a charity of the donor’s choice that is caring and loving just like Mom!
