Mamie Moore's Obituary
Mamie Ennis Moore, 92, of Memphis, passed away September 26, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband of seventy years, Ernest Lee Moore, her son, James Donald Moore (Clare Grace), her daughter, Diane Bonner ( Ronnie), her granddaughters, Lauren Bonner and Leigh Bonner, and a brother, Joseph Wheaton Ennis all of the Memphis area. She also leaves beloved friends, Lois Nelson of Colorado Springs, Co, and Mary Hardy, Connie Echles and Yolanda Sutton of Memphis. Mrs. Moore lived a life of service to her family and others. She served as the first female elder at Highland Heights Presbyterian Church and was one of the first women elders in the Memphis Presbytery. She volunteered for years at Western State Hospital in Bolivar, TN. She took an active part in the community during the Civil Rights Movement, volunteering as a summer camp counselor and tutor at the former Lester Elementary School. She delivered meals to the sick and elderly through MIFA’s Meals on Wheels Project. Mrs. Moore enjoyed taking an active role at Buntyn Presbyterian Church and with the Church Women United. She served as chairperson for SERVV, a non-profit organization which provides opportunity to artisans and farmers worldwide. She sewed special bedding for cancer patients as well as clothing for needy school children. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 28, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Buntyn Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Buntyn Presbyterian Church, MIFA, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
