Maidell S. Woods' Obituary
Maidell Woods of Germantown, Tennessee passed away August 3rd at Methodist Le-Bonheur Hospital. She would have been 94 years old on September 27th. She was the widow of Lain Woods who passed away in 1996. They were married for 56 years and had two daughters, Gwendolyn Montague and Judy Lain Patton. Her family mattered more than anything else on earth, and she was a very protective mother. She also took care of her own mother after she was widowed. A beautiful woman, she was a devout Christian and kept her membership at Highland Heights Baptist Church long after she moved from the area. An excellent seamstress, she made clothing for the Cambodian refugees sponsored by the church. At one time, she sang in the church choir. In 1983, her life was horribly altered when her car was hit head-on by a drunk driver. The collision almost killed her. She was left a paraplegic and spent every day of her life in pain from the injuries. She loved family gatherings with her daughters; and grandchildren, Gordon Montague, Eric Patton and his wife Sherry, and Trisha Patton Gurley and her husband Kris. Being a great-grandmother to Ryan and Thomas Patton was a special joy. A great affection was held for her sons-in-law John G. Montague and James M. Patton. Mrs. Woods loved her big yellow cat, “Tigger-Tom”, who spent many happy hours in her lift-chair and gave her great comfort. A special thank you to Dr. J.K. Montgomery who made it possible to keep “Tigger”. Also, thanks to Ben Ross, who did many things to enable Mrs. Woods to stay in her home until the end. Dr. Mark Castlelaw and his staff provided great care to keep Mother comfortable. Mrs. Woods had two brothers who preceded her in death, Prentiss Sweatt and Jimmy Sweatt. She leaves nieces Leigh Anne Carmichael and Vera Sweatt. Her nephews are Tim Sweatt and Stevie Sweatt. Her best friend of 60 years was Cuple F. Bright.
