Mai Barker's Obituary
Etta Mai Sexton Barker, 93, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville on May 28, 2010. Visitation will be Monday May 31, from 5-7 pm and services will be 10 am Tuesday, June 1, all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. She was the 9th of ten children born to Georgia and John T. Sexton. All of her siblings preceded her in death. They were: Raymond, Willburn, Sanford, Charlie, and Aubrey Sexton, and Della McMillen, Tura Myers, Beatrice Reed, and Elsie Presley. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ray W. Barker, and a granddaughter, Dara Barker. She leaves a daughter, Glenda Brooks (John) of Memphis; and a son, Kenneth R. Barker (Marilyn) of Buffalo, NY. In addition , she leaves five grandchildren, Dana O’Donnell (John) of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Jardina (JM) of Greensboro, NC, John Brooks (Jennie) of Memphis, and Ray C. and Edmond Barker of Buffalo. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Brooks, Libby and Jack O’Donnell, Hunt and Molly Jardina, and Whit Brooks. Mai was a lifelong Presbyterian and a lady of strong Christian faith. She served her church in many roles, including as Sunday School teacher, Circle Leader and President of the Women of the Church. She was a loyal and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, sibling, and friend. She also worked as a cashier in the Methodist Central Gift Shop for 16 years. The family requests memorials be made to Woodland Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.
