Mae Ella Wilson's Obituary
Mae Ella Wilson, 85, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. She had a long and productive career as an elementary education teacher. Her career began in Arkansas in the West Helena School System where she worked a year at the Westside Elementary School. Her remaining time in Arkansas was spent in the Forrest City Public School System at the Evans Elementary School. She ended her career with the Memphis City Schools where she remained a dedicated teacher until her retirement in 1990, at Berclair Elementary School. During her tenure as an educator she was a member of the TEA, WTEA, MEA; and she holds a life membership in the Memphis chapter of AM&N UPAB Alumni Association. After her retirement she became a member of the Orange Mound Civic Club. And she also served as Assistant Treasurer to the Memphis and Shelby County Retired Teachers Association. Mae Ella is one of the co-founders of Wilson Investments. And for more than Thirty-five years her company has provided affordable housing to the residents of Memphis. She leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Overtis Wilson, Sr. and two sons, Overtis L. Wilson, Jr. and Carlton T. Wilson, who reside in Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves one daughter-in-law, Rahal Clara Wilson of Ghana, West Africa; five granddaughters, Zinga (Wilson) Williams and Saburah Wilson, both of whom reside in Cleveland, Ohio; Kandi Wilson, Pauline Wilson, and Nhyira Korkor Wilson of Ghana, West Africa; two grandsons, Soloman O. Wilson and Kibwe E. Wilson of Ghana, West Africa; one great granddaughter, Zen Haven Elizabeth Williams of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Hoover Williams, of Earle, Arkansas; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ephron and Doris Lewis of Memphis, Tennessee, Corine Lewis of Chicago, Illinois and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 20 at the Greater Middle Baptist Church. Interment will be a the Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
