Madie L. Brice's Obituary
A Life Well Lived
Madie Laverne Brice passed away on Sunday April 19, 2026, after a short illness. She was born on January 24, 1933, in Luxora, Arkansas. Her family lived on a nearby farm, and she attended Luxora High School where she was a talented basketball player. After graduation she worked as a hostess at the Rustic Inn restaurant owned by her aunt and uncle in Blytheville, Arkansas. It was there that she met her future husband, Wendell Brice, as he stopped by for dinner on his way to Missouri. Wendell was a graduate in engineering from Iowa State University and a Naval Officer during WWII after graduating from Midshipmen school at Annapolis. They married seven months later in 1951 and were together until his death in 2013.
Madie's love for her family was foremost in her life. She was a wonderful wife and mother who wanted happiness and education for her children. She was also a gifted seamstress and owned a custom drapery shop for many years. In 1992 she and her daughter Alanna opened a successful French antique shop she helped run for many years. She played duplicate bridge at local bridge clubs and regional tournaments while living in Washington state, California, and Tennessee. She earned her life master and eventually moved up to the high-ranking title of Diamond master in the American Contract Bridge League. She played bridge at the Lightman Bridge Center in Memphis until mid April 2026.
She is survived by her sister Mary Jo Wetstein of Godfrey Illinois, her sister Elizabeth Pischke (Pat) of Ft. Worth,Texas, her sister Brenda Cobb (Brad) of Tunica, Mississippi, her daughter Alanna Lee Brice of Colllierville, Tennessee, her son Randall Alan Brice of Cordova, Tennessee, daughter Barbara Ann Brice of Memphis, Tennessee, grandson Waylon Brice of Memphis, Tennessee, great grand daughter Ava Brice of Collierville, Tennessee, and a long list of loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 25 12:00-1:30pm with services to follow at 1:30pm.
Madie left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her. Her family's loss is inexpressible, and we cannot imagine her absence from our lives. She was a warm and remarkable woman who led a very rich life.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Madie L. Brice.
