Madeline Rose Bertasi Miner's Obituary
MADELINE “Rosetta” ROSE BERTASI MINER, 91, passed into eternal life on May 5, 2011. Rosetta was born to Adelino Bertasi, Sr. and Rosa Gaspari Bertasi of Pesina, Italy and Memphis, TN on June 3, 1919. Rosetta was born in the United States but her father Adelino had business interests also in Italy and her parents moved the family back to Italy where Rosetta and her siblings lived until the 1930s when the family returned to the United States permanently to live. Rosetta was active in school while in Italy especially loving to act in plays. She also loved to climb the mountains of northern Italy with her father, Adelino. After returning to the United States, Rosetta and her family settled in the Bartlett area where she graduated from Bartlett High School in 1941. She attended evening classes along with her siblings to learn to speak the English language. After graduating from Bartlett High School, Rosetta entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree in 1944. She then entered the United States Army Nurses Corps with the rank of 2nd Lt. Rosetta served with the U.S. Army Service Forces at Fort Jackson, SC and overseas in England during WWII. While in the Army, she met and married the late Capt. William R. Miner, USA Ret. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on April 2, 1945. They were married 62 years. Together they raised five children: Tanya M. Dumas of Cordova, TN, Tanette T. Wilson of Royal, AR, Shelli M. Rosengarten (Sheldon) of Germantown, TN, Angelic M. Lindsley of Morgantown, WV, and William “Will” R. Miner, Jr. (Penny) of Germantown, TN. Bill and Rosetta enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing, travel, and being with their family. Rosetta retired as a private duty RN. She was a founding member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Rosetta’s picture and biography reside in the Women in the Military Service for America Memorial located in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Besides her parents and her husband, Bill, Rosetta was preceded in death by her siblings, Elma Bertasi Jordan Bell, Adelino “Leno” Bertasi, Jr., and Anthony “Tony” P. Bertasi, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kellie Rose Wilson of Royal, AR. Rosetta leaves seven grandchildren, Michael E. Dumas, Jr. (Donna Austin) of Germantown, TN, Mark E. Dumas (Christina) of Great Falls, VA, Matthew E. Wilson of Kansas City, MO, Anna Rosengarten Freiman (David) of Gaithersburg, MD, Gena L. Lindsley of Columbus, OH, Blake T. Lindsley of Memphis, TN, and Thatcher R. Miner of Memphis, TN. Rosetta also leaves five great-grandchildren: Emily B. Dumas of Vero Beach, FL, Maxwell W. Dumas, Sophia E. Dumas, Alexander G. Dumas, and Edward M. Dumas, all of Great Falls, VA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She leaves other family members, Anna C. Austin, Avery C. Austin, and Tony (Trace) Martin Austin, III of Germantown. There will be no visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Monday, May 9 at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military honors. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Memphis Humane Society and The Dixon Gallery and Gardens Cutting Garden.
