Mack Oates' Obituary
After a short illness, Daniel Mack Oates, III passed away on Saturday, September 1st at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis with his parents and many friends by his side. He leaves his parents, Mack and PK; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Hawks; his aunt, BG Oates (Stephen Poole) of Collierville, TN, his uncle, Latham (Vickie) Oates of Germantown, TN; his uncle, Jim (Mary Jane) Hatley of Chattanooga, TN and cousins, Ben (Tiffany) Hatley and Andrew Hatley.Macky was born April 3, 1983 in Memphis, TN. He was born very premature with many challenges. With the help of therapists, teachers and others, he became the most happy, healthy young man. He loved his church, Hope Church Memphis, and often asked “are we going to church today?” He loved spending time with friends, watching Chicago Cubs baseball with his Daddyo, Memphis Tigers sports and other sports. He made it easy for others to accept and love kids and adults with special needs. He taught all he met what love and acceptance was all about.He will always be in the heart of those who knew him and loved him. His legacy will continue through the Special needs ministry (named after Macky) at Hope Church.Visitation will be held at Hope Church Thursday, September 6th from 5-7 pm. Following a private burial there will be a memorial service at Hope Church on Friday. September 7th at noon.In lieu of flowers, send a donation to Hope Church in celebration of its Macky and Friends Ministry or to any other local ministry that honors special needs children/adults, such as Lucy and Company or the many other groups that enrich the lives of those with special needs.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
