Mack Evans McCaul Sr.'s Obituary
Mack Evans McCaul Sr. of Trenton, Tennessee, passed away on March 9, 2019 at the age of 90. He graduated from Peabody High School in Trenton, and served in the Army in Korea during the post-World War II occupation. After his discharge, he attended Memphis State College (now the University of Memphis). During the war, he had worked part time at the Post Office, and resumed that on his return. He remained with the Postal Service until his retirement.Evans was active in the community. He attended First Baptist Church in Trenton from birth, and as an adult he was involved with the Sunday School program, keeping attendance as well as attending. He belonged to the Elks Club, the VFW, and the American Legion. He served on several local committees, including, among others, the Park Commission, the board of the local hospital, and Appeals Board.Evans was always full of energy. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing tennis. In retirement, he would take long walks. He was a devoted gardener, growing delicious tomatoes, and a rotating variety of other produce (but always tomatoes). In the afternoons, he would feed the song birds who visited his yard. He read every day – newspapers, financial magazines, fiction. Once the internet came along, email joined the list. He enjoyed playing poker with friends. He was a numbers man, and kept up with his winnings through the years. While they were able, Evans and his wife Nancy enjoyed making short trips around the region. Always a University of Memphis fan, they would attend home football games. Occasionally they would go farther, once flying to Germany to visit their grandson, as well their daughter and son-in-law.Evans was the son of James Rufus and Camilla Evans McCaul. His sister Frances McCaul McCavitt predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Steinert McCaul, and his two children, Marjorie McCaul Robinson (Hoke) and Mack Evans McCaul, Jr, and two grandsons, Ernest Steinert Robinson and Mack Evans McCaul III.
