Mable S. Wible's Obituary
A long time prize wining rose grower and flower arranger, Mabel Lee Suggs Wible died peacefully October 19 at Bright Glade Convalescent Center. A sweet and giving lady, she was born in Collierville in 1914, the month when World War I began. She came from a family in this area for almost 150 years. Her grandfather returned to Collierville at the end of the Civil War to practice law because he loved the environs he found here. The Suggs family home place in Collierville is now Suggs Park. The widow of William A. Wible, she was a member of The Memphis Rose Society, Terrace Garden Club, and Scenic Hills United Methodist Church. She loved teaching Sunday School at Trinity United Methodist for over 20 years. Always involved in gardening, Mabel had great vegetable gardens as well as many beautiful flowers. She loved to share all her bounty. Her Tropicana rose won “Queen of Show” with over 3000 entries in the 1968 Memphis Rose Show. She had a closet full of silver trophies and ribbons for arrangements in many varied flower shows. Once an aspiring fashion designer, she turned her creativity to sewing, wood carving, cooking and gardening. Mabel leaves daughters Mary Lee Hoge (Dr Edward Hoge) of Tullahoma, TN and Dr Linda O. Wible of Memphis, grandson Jeb Hoge (Katherine) of Midlothian VA and great-grandsons Andrew William and Matthew Russell Hoge. She leaves many special friends and caregivers whom she loved as family.
