M. Kirk Walters, 83, of Collierville, TN, passed away on June 3, 2024. He was a wise, kind, gentle, and generous husband, father, brother, grandfather, colleague, and friend.
Mr. Walters was born September 16, 1940, in Dunlap, Cottle County, Texas, and remained a proud Texan his whole life. He was the son of Logan Byler Walters and Fleta Alene Kirkland Walters. After ten years with Peat-Marwick in Amarillo, Texas, he left to join Union Planters National Bank in Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked for thirty-two years and six months, ultimately as Senior Vice President, Treasurer, and Chief Accounting Officer. Kirk was a member of both the Texas and Tennessee Societies of CPAs, and the American Institute of CPAs. He served on the Board of Regents of the Mid-South School of Banking, including a year as chairman. He was a regular donor to and chairman of LifeBlood Memphis and President of the Memphis Health Council. Walters also served in many civic roles, including various committees for the City of Germantown. He also loved his decades-long membership in Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
