Lynn King Holloway's Obituary
Lynn King Hollway, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 5. Lynn was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and longtime community volunteer. She was known for her kindness and warmth, boundless energy, southern charm and deep devotion to her family and church.
Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School. After high school, she attended the University of Chattanooga, where she was president of Chi Omega sorority. After graduating from the University of Chattanooga with a B.A. in Biology, Lynn married David Holloway – her high school sweetheart.
Lynn and David married when he was in medical school. The pair (happily married for 64 years) relocated from NC to San Antonio, then to Memphis in 1969 when David began his long tenure with Stern Cardiovascular Center.
Lynn was a long-time and devoted member of Christ Methodist Church, where she taught Vacation Bible School and volunteered for decades. She also attended weekly Bible study until she was 86. She was president of St Mary’s Parent Association, headed the Memphis Youth Symphony Board, was active in LeBonheur Club and UMW.
Lynn loved spending time with her family on and near the water at Pickwick Lake and Sanibel Island, FL; attending classical music concerts and events; perfecting her talents as a seamstress; and nurturing her beautiful garden. Most of all, she was happiest when spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. David Holloway; her parents Dorothy Howell King and Dewey Dawson King and her brother Richard King. She is survived by her son David Holloway (Valerie) of Franklin; daughter Janet Holloway Cousar (late husband David) of Memphis and daughter Susan Holloway of Memphis. She is also survived by grandchildren David Holloway IV of Murfreesboro, TN, James Holloway (Rocio) of New York, Will Holloway (Rachel) of Ft Wayne, IN and grandson John David Christman of Memphis; granddaughter Juliana Christman of Atlanta, grandson Thomas Densford of West Hartford, CT, granddaughter Sarah Grace Lewellen (Jacob) of Memphis, granddaughter Shannon Sera (Mike); great grandchildren Evelyn Hollway, Joshua Holloway, Catherine Holloway, and Luke Sera; sister-in-law Jane Holloway Skelton of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, nieces Elizabeth Morgan (Garrick) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Jennifer McAfee (Mark) of Jacksonville Beach, FL; great nephew Tyler McAfee and great niece Virginia McAfee.
Services are Saturday, April 11 at Christ Methodist Church. A visitation is scheduled for Noon in the parlor at Christ Methodist Church followed by services in the Wilson Chapel at 1 p.m . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Neighborhood Christian Centers.
