Lynda G. Sikes' Obituary
Lynda Green Sikes, 75, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Lynda was born on January 27, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived with her guardian parents, Thomas and Kathleen Johnson, Jr., until graduating from Briarcliff High School and leaving to attend Auburn University from 1968 to 1972.
Her time at Auburn allowed her to fulfill her passion for nurturing children – earning the B.S. degree in Early Childhood Development that led to her role as a kindergarten teacher, but most importantly, meeting the man who would become her loving husband of 53 years and the father of her four children, Dr. James (“Jimmy”) Sikes.
Lynda will be remembered for her vivacious personality and inherent interest in people and families, her green thumb and skill at turning any home or yard into a thing of beauty, and for her lifelong dedication to her family and friends.
Lynda is survived by her husband Jimmy; children Bradley Sikes, Courtney Sikes Longmore, Natalie Woods, and Taylor Sikes; her beloved grandchildren Alexandra and Benjamin Longmore; and her brothers Eddie Woodliff of Marshallville, GA, and Richard Green of Waxahachie, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Green III, of Atlanta, GA.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service and reception honoring Lynda’s life at Second Presbyterian Church Chapel on Monday, October 27, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends during the reception at 1pm in the Salmon Room.
