Luther Leroy Robinson III's Obituary
Luther Leroy Robinson III was born on 2/18/1929 in Dyer, TN. He attended The First Presbyterian Church of Dyer and graduated from Dyer High School. Luther worked for his father at The Tri-City Reporter before earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the former Memphis State University where he edited the Desoto Yearbook and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Luther was a Army Veteran, serving from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany. In 1953 he married Joyce Becton of Dyer, TN and they had 3 children Elicia Dawn, Howard Dain, and Leigh Anne. Luther later earned a Masters of Education Administration degree and served the schools of Yorkville, TN; Dyer, TN; Carrollton, MS; Crawfordsville, AR; and Tyronza, AR in the positions of teacher, principal, and superintendent.
After retiring from his career in education, Luther became manager of The Mayfair Condominiums where he lived for over 30 years. He was a member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of The Memphis Symphony Chorus.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, Estelle Troy Robinson and Luther Leroy Robinson Jr; his sisters Eloise Barkley (Tom) and Dixie Baird (Ray); and his beloved son Howard Dain Robinson. Luther leaves two daughters: Elicia Scobey (Allison Stewart) of Newbern, TN. and Leigh Anne Robinson (Ray Beyer) of Memphis, TN. He also leaves 4 grandchildren: Claire Little, Hillary Anderson, Trevor Scobey, and Hannah Alexander; and 2 great-grandchildren: Silas Anderson and Arden Anderson. Funeral and inurnment arrangements will be announced.
Celebration of Luther Robinson III's life will be on November 11, 2022, at Idlewild Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will be there at 10:00 a.m. to begin greeting guests. Immediately following will be the inurnment ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who wish to attend are welcome to join the procession line.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The First Presbyterian Church of Dyer, Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis, The Alzheimer's Foundation, or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
