Luther Banks "Butch" Huffman's Obituary
Luther Banks Huffman, lovingly known as Butch, passed away on May 24, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Born on November 27, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, Butch lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and friends.
Butch’s heart has always been for his family, his wife and children and his extended family. Butch lost his father when he was just a young child. This loss brought on a lot of responsibility that he carried throughout his life and brought him closer to his younger brother, mother, his aunts and uncles and then eventually his in-laws. These relationships lasted a lifetime.
Butch met his future wife Cheryl, on a blind date set up by a relative. In just 2 years, they fell in love and were married right after Cheryl’s senior year of high school at White Station High School . Butch had graduated the year before from Treadwell where he participated in the ROTC. The two of them took this Godly, sacred oath to heart and would have celebrated 63 years together this September. At the time of their wedding, Butch was already enlisted in the US Army as a medic at Fort Hood in Texas and the young couple started their married life there.
As Butch transitioned from the military, he and Cheryl welcomed 2 children. First came their daughter Cheron and then their son Lee, both beloved. Butch his whole life, had a keen sense of right and wrong, so again in this role he displayed such honorable manhood. He took care of his family and provided for them by becoming a Master Electrician, working for Scott Electric Company and eventually taking over ownership. Years later he began working for TAM Electric where he worked for many years until his retirement. Butch loved working and often said that he hated to give it up. He enjoyed the satisfaction of getting a job done but also enjoyed the relationships that he developed with his co-workers and most importantly his customers. Butch enjoyed coaching his children in sports while they were young, dabbled in supporting local politics and loved to cook.
Butch Huffman will be remembered for his consistent life of strength and confidence yet having a humble reliance on his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to have taken away his sins on the cross. Those that knew him best knew that at times Butch could come across with a very strong personality but deep down he had a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lyniel Banks Huffman; his mother, Verna Sue Huffman; and his brother, Ronald Lee Huffman. Though his absence leaves a void, his legacy continues in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Butch is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Huffman, who shared in his journey of love and companionship. His daughter, Cheron Allbright (Mark), and son, Lee Huffman (Dana), will forever cherish the memories of their father. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Benjamin Allbright, Devon Huffman, and Fischer Huffman, instilling in them wisdom, strength, and unconditional love.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joy Huffman, and his brother and sister-in-law, J. Taft and Nancy Laster, who will always remember him with fondness and admiration.
