Lula Curtis Scott's Obituary
Lula Curtis Scott, 89, died Monday March 8, 2010 at Kirby Pines Manor. Born September 18, 1920 in Madisonville, TN to Morris W. and Catherine McCulloch Curtis, she grew up in Vonore, TN. Lula graduated from Vonore High School and Hiawassee College. She moved to Memphis in 1946 and went on to graduate with honors in 1949 from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. There she joined the faculty and taught until her retirement. She also earned a Master of Education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Lu was a multi-talented lady, active in many areas until her health began to fail in 2005. She enjoyed traveling with Walter until his death, cooking, entertaining, and playing the piano. At Kirby Pines she directed the rhythm band and played the piano at chapel services. She was also an active member of the Republican Women’s Party. Lula was the widow of Walter T. Scott. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Louise Rogers, and Janet Wrinkle, and brothers Garrett, Raymond, and Winfred Curtis. She is survived by her sister, Myrtle Lynch, of Cushing OK. She will be deeply missed by niece, Susan Scott, and dear friend, Peggy Carroll, of Memphis as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, godchildren, family, and friends. The family would also like to thank her caregiver, Debra Rucker, for her many hours of faithful and loving care. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Lula Curtis Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, 350 N. Humphreys Blvd, Memphis, TN 38120 or a charity of the donors’ choice. Services will be held at Memphis Memorial Park on Friday March 12 at 3pm. Visitation will be a 2pm preceding the service.
