Luella Wiygul's Obituary
Luella Phillips Wiygul died peacefully at her home on March 25, 2009. She was born and raised in Albion, NY.After high school, Luella joined the WW II effort and welded PT boats in the New York City Harbor and then moved to Miami, FL where she worked for Eastern Airlines as a Radio Operator. She met her husband over the Air Base Radio. Air Force Officer James L. Wiygul and Luella were married on December 22, 1945 and moved to Memphis, TN. Luella continued working for Eastern Airlines while her husband attended Rhodes College, the University of Arkansas Medical School and The University of Tennessee Dental School. Luella attended Rhodes College. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a bookkeeper for her husband’s dental practice for over 50 years. She was a docent for the Pink Palace, a Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteered at the White Station Library. She participated in the Alliance of the Memphis Dental Society, the Gourmet Dinner Club and the 19th Century Club. She and her husband enjoyed world travel and throughout the years visited each place where Jim had served during WW II. They traveled to Brazil, Africa, Europe, India, China and many places in between. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her sister, Georgia Fehrman.She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Dr. James L. Wiygul and their children, Dr. J. Philip Wiygul and Dr. Mark E. Wiygul and his wife Jan. She also leaves a brother, Ralph Phillips and a sister, Marjorie Anderson. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Lauren Wiygul, Philip Wiygul, Jr., John Wiygul and Drew Wiygul.Visitation will be held from 11:30-1:00p.m., March 28, 2009 with funeral services following at 1:00p.m. All services and interment are being held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.The family requests that memorials are to be sent to The Church Health Center located at 1210 Peabody Avenue in Memphis, TN 38104.
