Lucy Marie Martin's Obituary
Lucy Marie Martin (Sue) was born June 16, 1943 and passed June 8, 2016 at the age of 72. Sue had a passion for life that was known to all and manifested in a fight and fire for all that she loved. Her love for life was infectious. Never taking no for an answer, Sue was never held down by circumstance, but instead constantly encouraged those around her. The toughest of fighters, Sue inspired her family. Her love for her family was known by all, but most importantly was known to her family. There was not a time that Sue saw her family where the first and the last words out of her mouth were, “I love you, or you’ll never know how much I love you.” Finally, and the reason we rejoice even in death, was Sue’s love for Jesus Christ. Sue was selfless, gracious, compassionate, forgiving, and generous, a direct reflection of the Holy Spirit abiding within her. Sue constantly thanked God for his many blessings and depended solely on Him throughout her life. Sue was the only daughter of John and Gladys Sims and is survived by her grandchildren, Gray, Gage, Grace, Emma, and David, whom she loved more than life. Her grandchildren were never without a cheerleader or a kind word, each one of them was her favorite and she was never slow to remind them. Sue is survived by her sons, David W. Martin (Madeleine), Brian T. Martin (Stephanie), and Brett M. Martin, whom she always brought out the absolute best in. Sue instilled in her sons a love of family and Christ that will last for generations. Finally, Sue is survived by her loving and faithful rock, her husband of 53 years, Warren Martin. Warren and Sue’s marriage is the model for those of their sons, and will one day be that of their grandchildren. Never changing and always consistent, their marriage never ceased to amaze and inspire the family. Sue was Warren’s other half and both he and her family will miss her until the day that they are together again in the presence of Christ. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12 and funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 13 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Jesus answered him, truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’” – Luke 23:43 Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar, Memphis, TN 38119. “Celebrating Life…..Behind the Stone Wall”.
