Lucille Wallis' Obituary
Lucille Wallis died February 12, 2015, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was 96 years old. Having attended Murray State University as an undergraduate, Lucille earned her Master of Arts in Education from Memphis College in 1960. A life-long teacher, she taught first and second grade most of her career. She taught in Springfield, Tennessee and in Memphis at Sharpe Elementary and the Memphis State Campus School. Some of her favorite interests were raising plants, completing crossword puzzles, cooking delectable meals and keeping up with the Memphis Tigers teams with her cat Zoe. Lucille was a devoted member of the Baptist faith, attending Prescott Baptist Church in her early years in Memphis and Balmoral Baptist Church in more recent times. Lucille was a native of Fulton County, Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Hugh Hawthorne Wallis; her daughter, Vivian Wallis Hogue; her parents, William B. and Frances “Pinkie” Shuck McGehee; and her two sisters, Frances Churchill and Marjorie Call. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wallis Aiken (Charles); three grandchildren, Jennifer Dickson (Jim), Michael Aiken (Sarah), and Bryan Hogue; and three great-grandchildren, James Dickson, Kathryn Dickson, and Lachlan Aiken. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15 from 1:30 – 2:30 pm immediately followed by a funeral service all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
