Lucille "Lucy" Ormon Rainwater's Obituary
Lucy Rainwater, 92, of Memphis, TN, passed away December 13, 2016. Lucy was born July 7, 1924, in Hickory Flat, MS. She was the daughter of the late Alice (Smith) and Charlie Ormon of Hickory Flat, and wife of Thomas Rainwater of Memphis. Lucy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church and dearly loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a prayer warrior and encourager in the Lord to everyone. She was an avid student of the Bible for many years and attended Bible Study Fellowship as well as Community Bible Study. Every morning started with reading a stack of devotional books with Thomas and ended with singing a hymn. Lucy is survived by her husband of 69 years Thomas Rainwater and three daughters: Denise Lachina (Mike) of Germantown, TN; Fran Taylor (Parker) of Hot Springs Village, AR; and Jan Bailey (David) of Paducah, KY. She leaves seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren: Wendy Dunlap (David) of Olympia, WA, and their children, David and Wyatt; Chuck Ellingsworth (Laurie) of Memphis, TN, and their children, Chase, Mallory, and Mary Anne; Jonathan Taylor (Jennifer) of Maplewood, MO, and their children, Duncan and Coleman; James Taylor (Amy) of, Arkadelphia, AR, and their children, Benjamin and Jack; David Bailey (Kimberly) of Fort Thomas, KY, and their child, Ruth; Thomas Bailey (Margaret) of Nashville, TN, and their child, Piper; Martha Anne Thompson (David) of Taylor Mill, KY, and their child, Lucy; brother-in-law, Hugh Bell; sisters-in-law, Margie Ormon and Josephine Ormon; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Johnson Ormon and Shirley Ormon; and her two sisters, Pauline Thomas and Effie Bell. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Dr. Joe Piercey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Colonial Park United Methodist Church.“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
