Louise Slater Mann's Obituary
Louise Slater Mann died peacefully at her home in Germantown, Tennessee on March 31, 2025. She died exactly how she had hoped to - with her loyal and faithful dachshund Teddy by her side. Louise was married to her childhood sweetheart, William Jefferies Mann, for 65 years, and he predeceased her in 2020.
A lifelong Memphian, Louise graduated from The Hutchison School in 1951 and followed Jeff to the University of Oklahoma, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. She moved back to Memphis and married Jeff in 1955. Louise was a longtime member of St. Louis Catholic Church, and she was actively involved in LeBonheur Club and Madonna Circle.
Louise’s greatest joy was her family. She was a fun mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends dearly. She is survived by Weezie Thompson (Tommy), Suzie Cowan (Andy), Elizabeth Winsett (Pat) and Jeff Mann (Molly). Affectionally known as “Geez” by her ten grandchildren, they each have very special memories of time with her. Her ten grandchildren are Perrin Thompson Hall (deceased), Chris Thompson (Nina), Alex Thompson (McKenna), Andrew Cowan, Taylor Cowan, Henry Cowan (Lizzie), Caroline Winsett Weldon (Conor), Jane Winsett (John Macdonald), John Slater Mann and Thomas Mann. She also had four great-grandchildren: Patrick Weldon, George Weldon, Mamie Weldon and Brayden Thompson.
Louise loved to travel and always kept her bags packed in the event of a possible trip. She and Jeff traveled the world with longtime friends, family, and members of the International Association of Holiday Inns. Louise adored the jitterbug, Broadway musicals and trips to New York City with each grandchild. She and Jeff especially loved taking their large family of twenty to Disney World, Sandestin, and Park City, Utah.
Louise had a passion for knitting, as she created beautiful hats and blankets for newborn babies at the Baptist Hospital. She loved bringing friends and family together for large gatherings and adored her dogs - especially her loyal dachshund Teddy, who was always sitting on her lap.
Louise was blessed with loving, exceptional caregivers, especially Brenda Pittman, Pat Lacey and Betty Thomas, who added so much to her life for the last four years.
In addition to her husband Jeff, Louise is predeceased by her granddaughter Perrin, her sister Betty Slater Webster and her beloved parents Edward Warnock Slater and Jane Beane Slater.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise’s memory to The Perrin Schools in Niger - www.effectiveministries.org/louise-mann/ , The Hutchison School or the charity of your choice.
Graveside Services for Louise will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends and family for visitation prior to the service from 9:30am to 11:00am at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
