Louise Hays' Obituary
LOUISE (STOVALL) KLAER HAYS, 93, of Collierville, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown.The Fashion Director at Goldsmith’s for 34 years, she spearheaded Fashion Week, a spectacle of fashion shows held in September throughout Memphis that featured renowned designers, such as Oleg Cassini, and Hollywood stars, including Cary Grant, Stella Stevens and Mary Martin, Joan Crawford and Polly Bergen. She worked with Pierre Balmain, a renowned couturier, to create a one-time line that was sold only at Goldsmiths.She was a member of and tireless volunteer for The Brooks League and the Decorative Arts Trust, as well as the American Heart Association. She was an active communicant of Christ Church Episcopal in Whitehaven and, more recently, of St. George’s Episcopal in Germantown. She was also a member of the Memphis Civic Ballet, Memphis Opera Guild, Memphis Symphony League, Memphis Art League, and the Memphis Arts Council.She was the widow of Sam J. Hays.She leaves three step children, Elizabeth A. (Hays) Razee of Rehoboth, MA, Samuel J. Hays III of Niceville, FL, and Carruthers D. Hays of Logan, UT; a sister, Jewell Roberts, of Covington, KY; a brother, James A. Stovall of Collierville; a niece, Leslie Stovall, of Collierville; six nephews, Neal R. Stovall of Strayhorrn, MS, Dayne L. Stovall of Collierville, Keith A. Stovall of Horn Lake, MS, Michael Stovall of Memphis, and Edward Roberts of Covington, and Max Edward Roberts of Covington, KY; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and 10 grandnieces and grand nephews.Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16, at St. George’s Church, 2425 S. Germantown Road, Germantown, TN 38138. (901-754-7282) Followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Entombment will take place at the Mausoleum at Memphis Memorial Park, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119 (901-767-8930) immediately after the funeral service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. George’s Episcopal Church in Germantown.
