Gene and I worked together at Cool Bros. Plumbing, back in the early 60's, he was the foreman and I was an apprentice working on my journeyman licence when it came time to take the plumbers test first we had to "wipe" a lead joint. Well I did not know anything about doing that but Gene showed me how it was done. I passed the test on the first try (that was after hours of practice). After we both went our separate ways and at some time when he became a plumbing inspector Gene always treated everyone with respect and was a true Friend.

My big brother Gene (9 yrs older) was always there when I needed him. To me, he was bigger than life; always full of fun and adventures. He tolerated a little sister tagging along and slowing his fun down. Letting me unfold his newspapers (for his route) faster than he could fold them, all while still smiling at me. So many stories; but I take comfort in knowing he goes home in GOD's grace, peace and love and no more pain. Enjoy your homcoming, big brother until we meet again. Love, Kay

'Gene' was like my second Dad. On the afternoon that I realized that my wife of 24 years had left me, Gene showed up at my house to sit and talk to me. I was at one of the lowest points in my life and he let me know that he was there for me. There were so many other 'special' things that he did for me.... Such a GREAT man..!!!!
I truly loved Mr. Gene Childress.
