Lorraine K. Gordon's Obituary
Lorraine K Gordon, 93, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Hickory Withe, TN on Monday morning, March 25th, 2013. She was born in Beebe, AK, where she lived for the first 18 years of her life. She recounted that some of her most precious memories were from “The Old Home Place”, as she lovingly referred to her childhood home. She was a graduate of Opal High School, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team, in Beebe and of Draughon’s Business College in Little Rock, AK. She began her Civil Service Career with the War Department, Little Rock Engineer District as a Junior Stenographer. She later moved to Lajunta, CO where she was an assistant clerk/stenographer for the Quartermaster Corps of the Army, AAFAFS. Throughout her career with the war department she relocated several times around the United States. Following World War II, she married and moved to Memphis, where she raised her family, and after 30 years of honorable federal service, retired from the Defense Depot of Memphis. She was a member of the International Toastmistress Club and enjoyed dancing with Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and the Mary Martha Circle. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis & Minnie Ethel (Williams) Kirkpatrick, four sisters (Alberta Pritchard, Effie Kirkpatrick, Sarah Elizabeth Maxwell, and Belva Jean Menegay), and two brothers (John Dewell Kirkpatrick & Samuel Duane Kirkpatrick). She leaves behind her four children, John Bradshaw Gordon, Charles Law Gordon (Carol), Betty Todd Hayes (Greg), and Madeline Todd McDonald (John), nine grandchildren (Christopher Alan Gordon, John Nathan Coppedge, Jr., Craig William Gordon, Stephen Todd Coppedge, Aubrey Lorraine Lockard, Aaron Talmage Coppedge, Amber Gail Raynor, Cassie Michelle McDonald, and Kellie Denise McDonald), and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Thursday, March 28th from 5-7 pm.
