Lois Louks Boggan's Obituary
Lois Louks Boggan, 99, passed away early Sunday, August 30th, at her home. Lois was born to John Shelton and Callie West Louks on January 23, 1910, in Judsonia, Arkansas.She came to Memphis after graduating from high school and became a dental assistant in the Sterick Building and then embarked on a career of government service which lasted almost 50 years. She began her government work at the Memphis Army Depot, and then transferred to what later became the Kennedy VA Hospital, where she worked for 40 years. After retiring, she worked part-time at the Shelby County Health Department. She also worked for the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. Lois graduated from Memphis State University, now University of Memphis, after attending night classes for 7 years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women. Lois was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church and later Richland Baptist Church.Through the years, she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher, den mother and Brownie scout leader, and faithfully took all the neighborhood children to swimming lessons at the old Kennedy VA pool. Her life was characterized by her strong dependence on the Lord, a positive attitude and a determination to finish well.She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 54 years, W. Bruce Boggan, Sr.; her son, Bruce Boggan, Jr.; her parents; and her four brothers and two sisters. Known as “Nana” to her family, she will be missed by her daughter, Nancy B. Binkley and husband Les; three grandchildren, Beth Engle and husband, David; Les Binkley, III; Will Binkley; and great-grandson Richard Engle. She is survived by many dear nieces and nephews in Arkansas, Alabama, California and Oregon.Her family wishes to express their appreciation to her kind and dedicated caregivers, Mrs. Anna Marie Douglas, Ms. Andrea Eabert, Mrs. Marilyn Fly, Mrs. Celia Gaither, Mrs. Doreen Newsom, Mrs. Louise Simmons, Mrs. Dorothy Sims, Miss LaCretia Taylor, O.C. Williams, and to the entire caring staff of Amedysis Hospice.
