Lloyd Parker's Obituary
V Lloyd Parker, 92, peacefully passed away on July 28, 2011. He was born to parents Ruby and Vona Lloyd Parker of Memphis. He attended and graduated from Central High School in 1936 and Southwestern (Rhodes) College in 1940. Upon graduation, Lloyd was employed by Dupont Corporation in the photography department until joining the Navy in 1941 as an Ensign He served on the destroyers, Stevenson and Abercrombie, in the North Atlantic, South Pacific and Europe, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was discharged from active duty in 1946 and went on to serve in the Naval Reserves for 10 years. Lloyd met the light of his life, June Montgomery, of Suffield Connecticut, and they were married March 1,1947. He began his career with partner Frank Ward in the securities business until 1950 when he joined Equitable Life Insurance. He was with Equitable for 10 years. Lloyd joined JC Bradford & Co. in 1960 where he worked until retirement in 1989. Lloyd began as a broker later becoming Manager in 1970 and Partner. He also served on the New York Stock Exchange Committee as a judge until 1988. Lloyd and June have been devoted members of Second Presbyterian Church for 62 years. He served as a deacon and was a faithful member of the Chapel Sunday School Class. Lloyd was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared this passion with his beloved son and many of his closest friends throughout his life. Lloyd was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine (Kitty) Krebs. He is survived by his wife, June, of 64 years, brother-in-law Spencer Montgomery, Suffield, CT, his son, Spencer Parker of Stuttgart, AR, daughters Ginger Johnson, Oklahoma City, OK, Amy Potter, Glastonbury, CT, Jane Arrington, Mobile, AL, and Janet Parker, Mobile, AL. Lloyd has 4 beloved sons-in-law, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family wants to express their love and gratitude to “honorary” daughter, Jo Sowell, for her years of love and devotion to Lloyd and June. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday July 30 in the chapel of Second Presbyterian Church with a reception immediately following in the Salmon Room. A private interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church Health Center or The Trezevant Foundation.
