Lloyd Ellen Burgen Withers' Obituary
Lloyd Ellen Burgen Withers passed away at home surrounded by her family on August 14, 2015. She was born March 1,1928 in Memphis, TN to Claudia Beall Burgen and Elmer Lloyd Burgen. She lived most of her life in Memphis where she graduated from Central High School and married John Wellford Withers, Jr. in 1948 at First Presbyterian Church. They had four daughters: Claudia Fahrner (Don) of Huntsville, AL, Susan Wilkes (Baron) of Bartlett, TN, Virginia Buchanan (Minor) of Jackson, MS, and Lynda Moore (David) of Birmingham, AL. Lloyd Ellen was affectionately called “Mimi” by her 12 grandchildren: B. J. Wilkes III (Gwen) of Munford, TN; Allison Wilkes St. Clair (Johnny) of Bryan, TX; Maj Matthew Alwyn Fahrner AF (Heidi) of Garmisch, Germany; Catherine Wellford McLaughlin (Jesse) of Hampton Falls, NH; Kirsten Ellen Langston (Denny) of Huntsville, AL; Colleen Louisa Connor of New Orleans, LA; Holly Dean Buchanan of Philadelphia, PA; Cameron Ferris Buchanan of Charleston, SC; Kenneth Wellford Moore, Benjamin LLoyd Moore, William Hurst Moore and Walter Burgen Moore all of Birmingham, AL and 14 great grandchildren. She made her home for the past eight years with daughter Lynda and son-in-law Dr. K. David Moore and their four boys. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, a long-time member of the Community Bible Study group, as well as several book clubs in Memphis and Birmingham. She loved to spend part of her summers at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly in Tennessee and attend her grandsons’ many soccer games. The funeral was held at 10am Saturday, August 15th at Briarwood. Burial will be Sunday, August 16th at 1:30pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN.
