Liz Barton's Obituary
Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Van Hooser Barton, 81, passed away December 17, 2014. She was born December 22, 1932 in Memphis to Robert Edward Van Hooser, Sr. and Inez Russell Van Hooser. Liz grew up and attended public schools in Blytheville, AR and graduated from Blytheville High in 1951. She attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR and graduated from Sawyer Business College in Memphis. She worked at Eudora Baptist Church and Memphis Light Gas and Water. Retiring from MLGW in December 1999. She was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. Liz’s favorite things were family, friends, computer, reading, book club, opera at the Paradiso, and bible study fellowship. She also enjoyed bridge, scrabble, yoga classes, traveling and had many nice experiences. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Muncy of Jackson, MS; brother, R.E. (Buddy) Van Hooser, Jr. (Jo) of Memphis; children, Michael Barton of New Braunfels, TX, Daniel Barton (Missie) of Germantown, Mary White of St. Louis, MO, and Mark Barton (Mikki) of Germantown; grandchildren, David White, Katie Ledbetter (Mark), Molly Spurgeon (Monty), and Blake, Chelsea, and Jake Barton; and great grandchildren, Maggie and Charlie Ledbetter. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 18 and the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 19 all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southwoods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to the Love Offering for Jesus at Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Ave., Memphis, Tennessee 38119.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
