Linda Kay Everett's Obituary
Linda Kay Everett, 79 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in Memphis.
Linda was born July 22, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee and was preceded in death by her parents Jack Neely and Dorcas French Everett. She is survived by one daughter, Rachael Alden Rogers (Scott) Bates of Red Banks, two granddaughters, Sarah, and Halle Bates, two brothers, Jack Neely Everett, Jr. (Azza) and Alan L. Linda grew up living next door to the Methodist Church, where her mom was the church secretary. Her father was the accountant for The Commercial Appeal Newspaper. Her family often played the ukulele and piano during gatherings after church. During her youth, she sang in the Acapella Group, The Capezio’s and loved music and dancing. Linda graduated from Central High School, class of 1962, and attended Memphis State University (now University of Memphis).
Linda worked for Federal Express (Fed Ex), in Memphis and moved with the company to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for several years. During her tenure, she grew lifelong friends. She retired after 22 years of service in 2003. Post retirement, she remained close to several of her dearest friends and coined themselves, “The Lunch Bunch.”
She was a family centered Child of God. She loved being a mom but especially a Nana to her two granddaughters, whom she called her “Heart Lights.” She spent most all her retirement attending various school functions and being “The Nana Taxi” for both granddaughters. One of her most favorite past times was to try out new restaurants, where she would take on the role of the self-proclaimed food critic. She enjoyed cooking and taught her granddaughters how to navigate a kitchen and shared special recipes. Another past time she enjoyed with her family was retail therapy. There was always something to eye and buy!
