Lillian "Lil" Jones' Obituary
Lillian Nowlin Prewitt Jones, 91, died September 24, 2016 at Allen Morgan. “Lil” was born January 6, 1925 in Bolivar, Tennessee to Mariamne Ryan & Judge Alan McClarty Prewitt. The eldest daughter, Lil’s siblings included two older brothers, Thomas Ryan Prewitt and Alan McClarty Prewitt, Jr.; and sisters, Carolyn Prewitt Boren and Mariamne Prewitt Council. Lil attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1947 where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, LeBonheur Club, Circle of Flowers Garden Club, Women’s Exchange, and the Peace Circle of King’s Daughters. She was an avid tennis player, playing until she was 83 years old. Lil also loved playing Bridge, family trips, and evenings with her family playing Rummikub. Lil met her beloved husband, Richard Franklin Jones, at an outing at Blue Lake, Arkansas on July 18, 1948. They became engaged May 10, 1949. Frank and Lil married in Memphis on July 22, 1949. God blessed their home with two children, Richard Franklin Jones, Jr. and Caroline Prewitt Jones; and three grandchildren, Marion Thorn Jones, Richard Franklin Jones III, and Eugene Thorn Jones. Lil and Frank were married 66 years when Frank died in 2015 at almost 102 years of age. Lil was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alan; husband, Frank; and her son, Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Prewitt Jones of Alabaster, AL; three grandchildren, Marion Thorn Jones of New York City, Richard Franklin Jones III and Eugene Thorn Jones both of Baton Rouge; her sisters, Carolyn (Jim) Boren of Memphis, and Mariamne Council of Naples, FL; and her brother, Tom Prewitt of Memphis. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel at Trezevant Manor at 177 N. Highland on Monday, September 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Memphis Humane Society.Her services have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
