Lessie B. Jones' Obituary
Lessie B. Jones lived a very fulfilling life for 86 years, born December 9, 1931 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to the late George Jeffries, Sr and Ora Mae Dean (Jeffries) Garett. She was educated in the rural south of Marshall County and enjoyed many happy and carefree days with her siblings, Clara Mae, VL, Ben, and Dempsey.Lessie was raised in a Christian home where the love of God and family where at the forefront. Her strong belief in God led her to accept Christ as her personal savior at an early age at Wilkins Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Her family later relocated to Memphis where she continued her spiritual journey, fellowshipping with other local churches in the area, before uniting with Greater Hope Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Dannie Holmes, where she served on the Mother’s Board.Lessie was a diligent and faithful employee of Dobbs House Catering until she retired in 1994. Her most important job was providing unconditional love, great food, and support to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews whom she helped raise; a charge she was given by her big sister, Clara Mae upon her passing. A testament to a job well done is evident by the smiles we were behind the tears, as we honor her memory. She was a loving mother, the sweetest grandmother, the most tender great-grandmother, daughter, sister, an awesome aunt and a dear friend to many.God’s garden was in need of a beautiful rose, one that would bloom forever, so on June 2, 2018, as dew fell upon the roses, He whispered softly, my child come home and she sweetly answered here am I and peacefully went home with her Heavenly Father.Lessie’s legacy left to cherish the memory of the life she lived are her 5 daughters, Jeryl (Clifton) Ford, Gloria Jackson, Phyllis Maline, Yolanda (Leroy) Crutcher and Clarice Jeffries; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-children; 1 brother, Thomas (Rhoda)Luster of Chicago, IL; 2 sisters, Catherine (Macaster)Stiff of Chicago and Mavis (Roosevelt) Steward of Aurora, IL; four sisters-in-law, Lula Frances Jeffries, Vera Jeffries, Rhoda Luster, and Catherine Malone; her nieces and nephews, whom she raised and a host of other family members and friends. Those that were awaiting her arrival are her parents, George and Ora Mae; granddaughters, Keosha Jackson Randle and Rotonya Jackson; brothers “Ben” Jeffries, Dempsey Jeffries, Sr and Lenwood Malone; sisters Clara Mae Armstrong and V. L. Crain; brothers-in-laws, J. B. Armstrong and Ira L.
