Leslie A.Z. Smith 76, of Atoka, TN, passed away on May 10, 2023.
Leslie A.Z. Smith, fondly known as “Junior” was born on January 15, 1947, in Memphis, TN to A.Z. Smith and Margaret Lucille Smith.
He is survived by son, Andrew Smith, three daughters, Abbie Hope, Kathleen Teeters, Lauren Montgomery, five grandchildren, Kannon Siebert, Kinley Teeters, Gracie, Wade, and Colton Montgomery, his two sisters, Karen Smith, Sandra Reul, brother, Steve Smith, eight nieces and nephews, David Carson, Paul Carson, Julie Lance, Dr. Aaron Carson, Sarah Dunn, Hannah Kurlick, Leah Smith, Adam Smith and second cousins, Sandra Storms and James Koller.
Leslie was a Demolay, in the ROTC, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpa. He graduated college with a Bachelors degree in Education and a Masters degree in History. Leslie proudly served in the United States Army as a Tank Unit Commander, and Helicopter Pilot and retired as a Captain. He pursued a career as a History teacher at OBA. He later joined the Memphis Police Department where he served for 30 years and retired as a Captain.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
