Leslie Carrol Fortner's Obituary
Leslie “Carrol” Fortner, 87, of Collierville, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, November 28 surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 12, 1938, in Puxico, Missouri, to Brady and Dorothy Fortner.
Carrol was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather and great- grandfather. He spent his early career as a teacher and later served as the principal of Raleigh-Egypt Middle School. Afterward, he started his own HVAC company, and in retirement, he enjoyed his part-time work at Memphis National Golf Club.
Carrol married the love of his life, Margie, in 1960 in Memphis, and together they raised two children.
In his free time, he loved golfing, tending to his yard, and helping family and friends with home projects. He loved teaching his family the ins and outs of anything he knew—truly a jack of all trades.
Carrol is survived by his children, Sonya Baskin (Mark) and Les Fortner; his sister-in-law, Susan May (Bill); his grandchildren, Jared Baskin, Natalie McClure (Stuart), and Brittany Oswalt; and his great-grandchildren, Brently, Gunner, Knowlton, and James.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margie; his parents, Brady and Dorothy Fortner; and his brother, Elmore Fortner.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Thursday, December 4th at 10:00am with a graveside service following.
The family would like to thank the staff at Methodist Le Bonheur for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Samaritan’s Purse.
