Leroy Hidinger's Obituary
LEROY LEMAYNE HIDINGER, JR., 93, of Memphis, TN, passed away on October 19, 2013. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Ann Ledbetter Hidinger. He is survived by two sons, Lee (Gayla) and John (Lafaye), two daughters, Cindy (Fred) and Cathy, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the last known survivor of the riverboat M.E. Norman, which sank in the Mississippi River on May 8, 1925. Leroy earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree from the University of Mississippi, where he was active in campus service and leadership. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Mississippi. His pursuit of a law degree at the University of Virginia was interrupted by World War II. He served in the Army Medical Corps in France and afterward in the Army Reserve for many years. He completed his law studies in Memphis earning a degree from the Southern Law University which eventually became The University of Memphis Law School. He went on to earn a MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1950 Leroy opened Cavalier Cleaners which he and his wife Ann owned and operated for 62 years. Leroy was a life-long member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He also served on the board of the Wesley Senior Ministries. God broke the mold when He made Leroy. He was truly a remarkable man to those who knew him, kind and generous, always interested in people around him. He possessed a wisdom and insight that he freely imparted to others. He was active and energetic all his days. He was an incredible father, grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed. Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. John’s UMC Endowment Fund, 1207 Peabody Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104, or the Church Health Center, 1196 Peabody Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104.Location: Fairlawn Arrow Color: White
