Leon Linton's Obituary
A. Leon Linton, 81, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015. He was born April 20, 1934 in Iuka, MS to Jude and Levetah Linton. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University. In 2009, the university honored him by renaming the department the A. Leon Linton Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 2014, he received an honorary Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering and delivered the commencement address at Lawrence Technological University. In 1968, he founded Southern Systems, Inc., a conveyor engineering and manufacturing firm. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Linton; children, Marie Keyes, Larry Linton, LeAnn Hanks (Hudson), Lisa McIntosh (Emery), and Lesli Breeden (Justin); grandchildren, Thomas Linton Keyes, Chandler Keyes, Alayna Linton, Kathryn McIntosh, Lauren McIntosh, Micayla Hanks, Riley Hanks, Miles Breeden, Quinton Breeden, and Frances Breeden; and sisters, Mary Etta Barnes and Betty Linton Barkley (Lawrence). He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Carol Linton; son, Henry Lynn Linton; parents; and sister, Louise Tyler. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church and the Wisdom Seekers class. He honored his God, loved his family, and cherished his friends. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Saturday, June 27 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, June 28 at Second Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
