Lennie M. Coker's Obituary
Lennie M. Coker, 90, passed away December 30, 2019 at Collierville Baptist Reynolds Hospice House where she received excellent care and comfort during her last days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan A. Coker on May 23, 2017 after 70 years of marriage. She and her husband were formerly members of Bellevue Baptist Church and in later years members of Macon Road Baptist Church. They enjoyed traveling on church trips with friends and being active in Senior Community Centers.
Although she and her husband were born and raised with meager means, they worked hard as a steamfitter and hairdresser diligently saving to fulfill their goals as business owners. They owned a conveyor belt business, three beauty salons, and a farm raising cattle, pigs, goats, chickens, rabbits, honeybees, guinea fowl, dogs, cats, hay, and soybeans. They always had a vegetable garden. After selling her beauty salons, she continued to work as a hairdresser into her eighties and enjoyed doing embroidery needlework and ceramics. She moved into Town Village Audubon Park Senior Independent Living Community at Park Avenue and Cherry Road in Memphis, TN after her husband’s death.
Parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded her in death. She has two surviving sisters, Mrs. Betty Reynolds, and Mrs. Patricia Powell of Arkansas.
Four children survive her, David (Brenda) of Arlington, TN, and Greg (Cathy) of Olive Branch, MS, Sandra (Randy Flatt) of Memphis TN, and Melinda (Ricky Cox) of Nashville, TN. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive her.
There will be a private family service in John Burlin Griffin Chapel at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Brunswick, TN.
