Lee Southern Yarwood's Obituary
Lee Southern Yarwood
Uncle Buddy
December 23, 1920 - May 13, 2023
Boy that last hole 18 was a doozie, like chopping high cotton in Panama. It looks like a gathering has started up in the club house. I see that Charlie and his friends have their guitars out … and there’s Steven, Edie & Kace setting out a beautiful delicious looking spread. Virginia, Teresa, Susan, Tom, Kevin, Kelly & Chase are greeting the guests. It’s going to be a big party. There’s Sharon & George … It’s my whole family!
Wait, I hear someone calling from behind me, “Lee, come this way.” This is impossible! Louise! She’s high up on a brand-new gleaming cruise ship, “The Cotton Jubilee”. It’s tied up and about to set sail. Louise is right beside my mother and father waving me to hurry along. There’s Genie & Kristy and Charlie, and Sonny & Carol, too! So many faces I’ve not seen in such a long time. I’ve missed you all so much. I started to pick my golf bag up when Louise said, “Don’t worry about those, Lee, we have a new custom made set onboard for you and yes, of course you can bring your favorite putter, but you can leave your walking stick, you won’t need it on this trip!”
Here we go … Cruise number 26 … See you all next time we dock!
Lee Southern Yarwood was born to Juanita Cook Anderson Yarwood and Lee Southern Yarwood, Sr. in Memphis, Tennessee
on December 23, 1920 and left this world on May 13, 2023. He loved golf, travel and was an avid reader and loved music & dancing. He worked for Weil Brothers Cotton, Inc and during his time there he lived and worked in many countries, including Panama, Venezuela and Columbia which is probably where his love of travel came from. His adventurous spirit also led him to get his pilot’s license. Later in life he loved golf and tomato gardening. Lee spent his last months at Brookdale Dogwood Creek in their Independent Living apartments and he loved being there. He met some sweet new friends and was welcomed by the loving staff, who also became caring friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Laura Eugenia (Genie) Anderson Adams, great nephew, Mark Adams, nephew, K.C. (Sonny) Adams, brother, Charles Thomas (Charlie) Yarwood, Sr., and wife, Louise Courtney Yarwood. He leaves behind his sister-in-law, Virginia Grantham Yarwood, nephews, Charlie Yarwood, Jr. (Teresa) & Steve Adams (Edie) and niece, Susan Yarwood Mitchell (Tom), a great niece, Kelly Yarwood (Chase Gustafson) two great nephews, Kevin Vaughan & Kace Adams.
Services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. There will be a visitation at 11:00am with a graveside service to follow at 12:00.
