Lea Gibbs Queener's Obituary
Dr. Lea Gibbs Queener, 91, passed away peacefully December 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. Dr. Queener earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in English from Memphis State University and received her Doctorate in Oral Interpretation from Northwestern University. She retired from the University of Memphis, where she was a Professor in the Department of Theater and Communications. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and respected by her students and colleagues. Dr. Queener was preceded in death by her parents, John J. and Ora Mae Sharp Gibbs; brother, John Lowell Gibbs; husband, Dr. E. Llewellyn Queener and daughter, Camilla Shaw. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Harrison; son, Edgar L. Queener (Eileen); grandchildren, Catherine L. Maddux (Marty), Jack N. Everett, III (Julia), Alice Barbara Queener, Joshua Queener (Megan), Robert Queener (Dawn), David Queener (Cate), and John Queener and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime member, at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Dr. Queener will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
