So true.
Rusty was my law school classmate and friend. I have never met a person like Rusty. Every interaction with Rusty was funny or provocative. I enjoyed every minute that I spent with Rusty. You never knew what he was going to do or say and, at the same time you always knew what he was going to do or say. At the end of the day, he was always kind, intelligent and smart. I want to thank Rusty for making my life brighter by being in it. I want your family to know what a great person you are–but I know they know that already. Your law school classmates love you and won’t forget you. Especially your Sweathog brothers. Love, Spence
Rusty was a fellow Central Warrior, class of ’76. His photography helped to capture our high school years with wit and humor. Rusty, you will be missed.

He was a great lawyer, a great friend and an awesome man. You will be dearly missed by all that knew you, especially by your fellow PDs.
Rusty always made me smile. Even when he was being a crusty, grumpy curmudgeon, there was a warmth to it that you couldn’t help, but like. His dedication to helping people that most of us wouldn’t give a second thought was inspiring. I’ll always remember a couple conversations that we had that have always stuck in my mind. The first was when he explained why he did the work that he did as a public defender. He said that he felt like if he or someone he loved were in the same position as his client, he’d hope that someone would work as hard as they could for them. A second was soon after his daughter’s accident. Rusty knew that my mother had a strong relationship with God. He asked me to ask my mom to pray for his daughter. His exact words “I know your mom has God’s direct line so could you ask her to pray for my little girl?” Rest in Peace, Rusty. I’ll miss you my friend.
He was like a second dad to me….he was nothing but kind and I just talked to him so I am in coplete shock. He was an amazing man and awesome father….nothing will be the same To say he will be missed is just not enough….the world doesn’t seem right and our local scene has been rocked by another shocking loss….
