Lawrence "Larry" Duane Bartrem's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Duane Bartrem passed away on May 14, 2026, after a long illness. Larry was born on December 27, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan, to Col. Duane and Frances Bartrem. He was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School.
Larry met his loving wife, Caron Ann “Annie” Limberg, at a national Explorer Scout conference, and they were married a year later in the alumni chapel of Michigan State University.
Larry was a proud graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and served as chief of staff to the president of ASMSU. In his last years, Larry spearheaded a campaign to establish an endowed professorship at JMC.
Professional fundraising for charitable non-profits was the focus of Larry’s entire professional career, which began with the Boy Scouts and continued with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Red Cross. Larry received many recognitions for his professional accomplishments, but he was not motivated by accolades, only by his desire to help others.
Larry’s survivors include his wife Annie, brother Jeff, and sister-in-law Anne, niece Casey and her husband Steve, nephew Mitchel and his wife Kayla and their children, and nephew Kyle.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. Those who wish to remember Larry may do so by making a gift to the M. Richard Zinman Endowed Professorship Fund in Classical Political Philosophy at Michigan State University.
