Dee Bowling, 46, of Lakeland, Tennessee passed away on Monday, August 18. He was born to Suzette (Welch) and the late Lawrence Bowling on June, 13 1968, in Memphis.He was a decorated Sherriff’s Deputy, receiving the Purple Star in 1998 for injuries sustained in the line of duty. Dee retired as a Sergeant from the Shelby County Sherriff’s Department after 25 years of faithful service to his community and law enforcement family.Dee had extraordinary devotion to those he held dear and, in 2009, reaffirmed that devotion to Kelly Neal and her son Colin. He also leaves his step-father, Dale Welch, and step-brother, Greg Welch who were also very special people in his life.Dee was a larger-than-life figure and had a personality to match. Although his passing was sudden, his spirit still touches us and will remain a part of us for as long as we carry his memory.His life will be celebrated on Friday, August 22 at Hope Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested Dee be memorialized through donations, in his name, to St. Louis Catholic School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
