Lawrence T. Blades' Obituary
Lawrence T. Blades, born to Earl and Myrtle (nee Angus) Blades on December 2, 1919, in Billings, MO; died January 26, 2010, in Memphis, TN. He was the stepson of the late W.E. Ravenscraft. He is survivedby his sister, Laureen Davidson, of Billings, MO; his wife of 67 years, Mary (nee Tobias); son Larry (wife Maureen)of Seattle, WA; son, Ronald (wife Pat) of Memphis; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Blades was from his early years intensely interested in aviation and served in the Army Air Corps during WW II both as an aviation instructor and as a flight engineer on C-54 transports flying the north Atlantic route. He continued his career in aviation after the war, working both at Chicago and Southern Airlines (now Delta) and at Memphis Flying Service before becoming a metal developer at International Harvester. His time outside of work was often spent in volunteer activities such as coaching Little League at St. Anne School and working in leadership roles with his sons’ Boy Scout units.
